Hello,

I have hMailServer installed on a Windows 2008 Server box, and I want to add a web mail front end for testing. As I don't want to muck around with the server more than necessary, I grabbed the ASP.NET version of the web mail and installed it.

All seemed to go fine, and I can log in as admin, but when I try to log in as a user, I get the error message...

Can't connect to POP3 server, check POP3 server settings

Not sure where to go from here. As far as I know, the settings are correct. Any suggestions as to what I should look at?

Hmm, just realised that when I installed, it didn't ask me anything about the mail server I was to connect to. I would need to set that somewhere, otherwise it won't have any idea which server it's supposed to be using. This would explain the error!

Where do I set the mail server? Seems such a basic, obvious point, but I can't see it anywhere.

By the way, when I installed, I created a new database, I didn't use the existing hMailServer database. Should I have used it?

Default domain settings contain hostname and port for POP3/IMAP and SMTP server, and by default those point to localhost (127.0.0.1) so it's assumed you have WebMail and mailserver installed on the same machine. You might need to set it to 127.0.0.1, I recall there were issues in the past with localhost value set.

As for the database, it's perfectly fine to use a separate database.

Note that ASP.NET version of WebMail Lite wasn't updated for several years, it's strongly recommended to use PHP version of the product.

Hello, thanks for the reply.

As I said in my first post, this is just for testing, so not worth mucking around with the server installing PHP, etc. I'm not going to be using the web mail much, just want to be able to see if there are any emails coming into the accounts (there shouldn't be, I'm just suspicious that there might).

I have web mail and the mail server on the same machine, so am not sure why I got the error. You say I might need to set it to 127.0.0.1, but don't say where. Please can you point out the file or place in the admin.
